Dayton, OR

July 31, 2016
We arrived at Willamette Wine Country Resort at about 2 for a 4 night stay. There was a group of   10 bikers in the  park from Missouri. They have their bikes transported in two trailers to their starting points and fly there to begin their ride. After covering Wash, and Ore they will have covered all 48 of the contiguous states.

Adjacent to our park is The Vintages Trailer Resort. In this park you can stay in vintage travel trailers from the 50's. There are Shasta, Terry, Airstream, Ambassador and other classic units available. The interiors have been refurbished with AC and bathroom upgrades. You also have access to cruiser bicycles during your stay. Here are a few photos:

We went to Dundee to visit wineries and shops. Then lunch and back to the park. I went to the pool to cool off. After dinner we sat out enjoying our fire and the beautiful evening.

We headed into McMinnville in late morning to check out the town and have lunch at McMenamins Grand Hotel, We sat in roof  bistro and had a really good lunch. Then back to the park to enjoy the day.

We went back into McMinnville to visit some tasting rooms. There is a great selection in the area. Then we went to a pizza joint for lunch. There was a little area set aside for slot machines so I went in and spent about $5, my self-imposed allowance, and won over $93. That paid for lunch and most of the wine we bought. Then back to the park to relax and get ready to head to Rockaway Beach.

It was only about a 2 hour drive to Rockaway Beach. The park was nice and close to the beach but the wind was really blowing hard. We stayed in the park using our trailer to shelter us from it.

After breakfast we drove through Rockaway Beach. Not much to do or see that is any different from other seaside towns. Then we went to Garibaldi and Tillamook to get away from the wind on the beach. We went to  the Blue Heron French Cheese Factory and sampled lots of good sauces, dressings and cheese. We had lunch at the Schooner Restaurant in Netarts. The clam chowder is fantastic and sandwiches good as well. Then we visited The Myrtle Wood Factory in Garibaldi. There are lots of cool carvings and wood artifacts there. Then back to the park where it was still windy. We had intended to stay here 4 nights but decided to leave after 2. We had paid for all four nights so they told us we have one year to come stay for the other two nights. We'll go there next summer on the way to Charleston, OR near Coos Bay.

Instead of heading home we stopped at Don's cousin Jim's house to attend the annual family gathering of relatives on his mom;s side. Our daughters and my sisters were there as well as cousins, great uncles, great, great  aunt Nita and others. It was good to see these folks again. We headed for home at about 4. We will be home until Sept 5 when we head out for our final trip of the year.
